The night-cap of matchday-1 Sunday — and one of the most-anticipated of the entire group stage. Brazil vs Senegal is the kind of marquee Group F opener that headlines the matchday. Vinícius Jr. vs Sadio Mané is two world-class left-side attackers facing each other for the first time in a tournament.
Three reasons Brazil-Senegal eclipses the rest of Sunday night:
1. The Vinícius vs Mané left-flank duel. Vinícius (Real Madrid, 25) vs Mané (Al-Nassr, 34, the elder statesman). Both are right-footed left wingers who cut inside. Both are their team's most-feared attacker. This is the first competitive match they've played against each other in the same fixture.
2. Senegal is the model's most-dangerous "outside-top-7" team. Their squad (Mendy + Koulibaly + Gueye + Sarr + Mané + Dia) is the most-Premier-League-experienced African squad ever assembled. The 2022 round-of-16 exit was supposed to be a foundation; the 2024 AFCON win confirmed the level.
3. Brazil's Vinícius-Endrick-Rodrygo Real Madrid trio. All three play for Real Madrid (Vinícius + Rodrygo since 2018-22, Endrick since 2024). Their on-field chemistry is the model's primary reason for ranking Brazil 4th. This is the trio's first World Cup minute.
Manager: Dorival Júnior · 4-3-3
Style: Vertical attack through Vinícius's cutting-in runs; Endrick as #9 making diagonal runs
```
Alisson (GK)
Danilo Marquinhos É. Militão W. Magalhães
Casemiro Bruno Guimarães
Lucas Paquetá
Vinícius Endrick Rodrygo
```
Key calls: Endrick at #9 (over Richarlison). Casemiro at 33 starts at #6 (rotated in matchday 2). Paquetá as the central #10.
Manager: Aliou Cissé · 4-3-3
Style: Defensive compactness; transition vertical through Sarr (right) and Mané (left)
```
É. Mendy (GK)
N. Mendy Koulibaly Niakhaté Jakobs
Gueye Mendy Pape Matar Sarr
Mané Dia I. Sarr
```
Key calls: Boulaye Dia as #9 (over Niang). Idrissa Gueye still at #6 despite age. Ismaila Sarr on the right.
Most-likely scoreline: Brazil 2-0 (12.8%) or Brazil 2-1 (12.1%). Senegal upsetting Brazil: a real but minority outcome.
